There is plenty happening at the Glen Iris Estate site as we progress the development of a vibrant new heart for Jandakot. We continue to focus on tree retention and construction works that will deliver the foundation for this exciting new community.
Planning Approval
The Western Australian Planning Commission has approved the subdivision design for Glen Iris Estate. This planning milestone sets the scene for the new road networks, residential lots and public open spaces that will bring the vision for a connected neighbourhood to life. Subdivision approval, along with engineering designs, means the project will now move to staged construction works and installing the required services and infrastructure for the project.
Tree Retention and Clearing
As we approach the start of major earthworks, responsible and careful tree management is underway,which will result in some clearing
We are also undertaking significant work to safeguard and prepare the hundreds of mature trees that are being retained to deliver the leafy streets and a host of sustainability benefits rarely found in new urban estates.
- Root Assessment: We are actively vacuum-extracting soil around selected trees to expose their roots. This allows our arborists to assess root health and condition, ensuring that trees selected for retention receive the necessary care and preparation for upcoming works.
- Boosting Tree Health:To protect retained trees through the construction phase, we have been applying a liquid fertilizer containing amino acids, kelp, and minerals which serves as a natural boost, fortifying the trees and promoting their vitality.
- Giving Trees a Second Chance: Some grass trees at the site need to be temporarily relocated due to works. Grass Trees Australia is currently preparing these native trees for extraction. They will then be carefully transported to a plant nursery for care and attention. Once civil works on the site are completed, the grasstrees will be transplanted back into the estate, ensuring they continue to play a role in the natural landscape.
Construction Works
Construction works are currently underway in Glen Iris Estate’s central precinct, reshaping the levels across the site to reflect the engineering designs and the construction of new roads, underground services and open space areas.
