Detailed planning is underway for the Central Precinct of the new Glen Iris Estate, covering an area from Berrigan Drive up to Twin Waters Pass. Our expert consultants have been working diligently to ensure that the design outcomes align with both the vision for the estate and the key elements included in the recent planning approvals, such as the preservation of existing trees and wildlife habitats.
Thorough planning and engineering
Our project consultancy team – from town planners, civil engineers, environmental consultants and hydrologists, to traffic engineers, landscape architects, arborists and surveyors – has been working with officers across several departments at the City of Cockburn. Collaborating to confirm site data and develop design details, we have been working together through many of the specific project outcomes.
By working hand in hand, we are creating a design that balances development requirements, environmental considerations, the preservation of unique attributes, and future community amenities.
Focus on tree retention and habitat preservation
Preserving as many of the mature trees and shrubs as possible across the site is a top priority. With this goal in mind, the design team, including the planning and engineering consultants have been working closely with arborists and environmental consultants to identify and protect significant trees.
Potential cockatoo habitat has been made a priority, with all four of the identified potential cockatoo habitat trees located within the area of the Central Precinct being retained.
Detailed assessments of significant trees has been an integral part of our design process because we are committed to maintaining the balance of nature and providing a habitat for local wildlife within the estate.
Refining the design
Our team has visited the site multiple times as we continue to refine the design and ensure that all aspects of the Central Precinct align with our vision. By collaborating on site and taking into account the feedback from various stakeholders, we are confident in creating a respectful and sustainable community.

Sustainability remains at the forefront of our development ethos. Beyond tree preservation, Glen Iris Estate will incorporate sustainable practices in various aspects, including energy efficiency, water management, and significant areas of linked green spaces with pedestrian and cycling networks. We will create a community that embraces the mature trees and natural surroundings while minimising our environmental footprint. As we move forward, we will share more details of these embedded sustainable practices.
First stage timing
The removal of existing infrastructure has begun, marking the first step in the transformation of the site.
The next phase – July-September 2023 – will involve some clearing of the site within the Central Precinct.
Construction and civil works for the initial lots within the estate are anticipated to commence from late 2023, extending through to the middle of 2024.
