With healthy, leafy trees a highlight of our new estate, our arborists have been hard at work making sure existing trees are well looked after.
As earthworks for Stages 2, 3 and 4 continue, responsible and careful tree management remains at the forefront of our mind. It’s all part of our goal to deliver leafy streets and a host of sustainability features we believe are rarely found in new urban estates.
Here are some of the industry-leading practices we’re putting in place to ensure the retention and survival of as many of the existing trees as possible at Glen Iris Estate.
- Tree Assessments: Trees have all been getting a ‘health check’ to help us keep them in the best shape possible. They have an important role to play in the future of our development.
- Root Assessment: Our arborists have been completing a root mapping exercise and assessment of root health and condition. This involves actively vacuum-extracting soil around selected trees to expose their roots. It’s a specialist procedure that ensures that trees selected for retention receive the necessary care and preparation ahead of future works on site.
- Boosting Tree Health: To protect retained trees through the construction phase, a liquid fertilizer containing amino acids, kelp, and minerals is applied. It serves as a natural boost, fortifying the trees, promoting new root growth and ensuring root vitality.
- Giving Trees a Second Chance: The specialists at Grass Trees Australia have been carefully preparing a number of grass trees that need to be temporarily relocated during construction works. These native trees are being taken to a plant nursery where they’ll get interim care and attention off site. Once work is completed on site, these grass trees be heading back to Glen Iris Estate to be replanted, ready to play their role in the natural landscape.
